HTC Hero and Wi-Fi with WPA AES encryption

I noticed that my HTC Hero is unable to connect to my (fairly old) USRobotics SureConnect ADSL Gateway when I enable WPA AES encryption on the wireless access point.

There are people who have reported the same problem with other phones on other Wi-Fi access points so I guess this is not specific to my HTC Hero nor my USRobotics device. It must be something in Android itself.

I switched back to TKIP encryption even though it is less safe.

It's working fine at my side; WPA Personal with AES on a linksys running ddwrt
I have the hero with the latest modaco modded firmware and latest radio.

That is good to know. It's getting really tempting to root the phone and install the modded firmware (which also includes the performance improvements that fix the 'lag').
