"Here comes everybody" spurred my interest after Dries quoted Clay Shirky during his DrupalCon keynote session. I'm hoping to learn whether "Don't plan, co-ordinate." is really the way forward or just an excuse to be lazy ;)
Because of fluctuations in the gravitational speed of the earth, 2008 will get an extra leap second.
Apparently, leap seconds are inserted approximately every 18 months so I guess the world is not going to end. I still wonder which software breaks (and how it breaks) because of this kind of external changes.
The video card of my laptop - a Dell XPS M1710 - is broken. It took a couple of hours to go from fully functional over "What are these weird lines doing on my desktop?" to "Now I don't even see the BIOS boot screen!".
Of course the timing is really bad but fortunately my hard disk fits in my wife's laptop (also a Dell) so I am able to get some work done, albeit on a less powerful machine.
I'll be calling Dell Support first thing Monday morning to figure out what my options are.
Earlier this week my heart skipped a beat when Password Safe refused to open my password database. I tried the original database, a local backup and 2 older backups but none of them would open. The error message "Incorrect passkey, not a PasswordSafe database, or a corrupt database" was not very comforting. All these passwords that do not fit in my little brain. Where did they go?
